Engineering

As a partner to the world's major aerospace engine manufacturers, Techspace Aero has developed a large engineering capacity, with 250 highly skilled engineers and technicians, all of whom are well acquainted with the latest and most advanced technologies in the industry.

High-level skills for Research & Development

Based on its project and knowledge management processes, Techspace Aero designs, develops and industrializes equipment modules for aircraft and rocket engines.

Techspace Aero practises project management methods, creating project teams dedicated to engine module development which can work either at the customer's site or at TA.

Techspace Aero's fields of expertise are as follows:

  • from design to certification:

    • low-pressure compressors and bearing supports (front part of turbo engines)
    • lubrication equipment: over 20 different lubrication units, tanks and valves are developed at Techspace Aero
    • valves and regulation equipment for space propulsion
  • Industrialization:

    • the most critical components of turbo engines for Pratt & Whitney (F100, PW4000), General Electric (F110, CF 34, GE 90, GEnx), Honeywell (AS-900), Snecma (CFM 56, M53)
  • Processes and materials:

    • surface treatments: plasma spray, welding, brazing, coating, repairs, etc.
    • non-destructive testing: eddy current, X-ray, FPI, holography, etc.
    • tool optimization
    • rapid prototyping
  • Modeling and design analysis

    • thermo-mechanical analysis, vibration analysis, life management (Catia, SAMCEF)
    • system modeling
    • 3D design (Catia)
  • Testing

    • De vibration, tests d’endurance, de performances, analyses environnementales, instrumentation des ensembles pour essais moteurs, accompagnement technique des essais moteurs au sol et en vol.,…

R&D partnerships

To carry out its research projects Techspace Aero has developed various technological, industrial and commercial synergies with other companies belonging to the Safran Group, with European engine manufacturers, with its suppliers and their partners and with various universities (ULg, INSA, Braunschweig, Nottingham, Mons, von Karman, UCL, ULB, ERM, ECL), research centers and laboratories (CRIF/CEA, CENAERO, VITO, METCUT, RC).

Gerotor pump designed by Techspace Aero

Over 20 patents a year

The successful results of the research work that has been carried out in the last few years have enabled Techspace Aero to take out different patents, such as those for the gerotor pump, the lift augmentation carbon seals for bearing compartments and the valve electric actuator regulating space engines. Since 2000 at least 20 patents have thus been taken out each year, demonstrating the creativity of our technical teams !
