Techspace Aero (Safran Group) signs technological cooperation agreement on two new engine programs

Today’s agreement signed between Techspace Aero and GE Aviation at the Farnborough Air Show concerns a technological development programme for new-generation engines. These engines are the TechX intended for business jet aircraft, and the NG34 intended for regional jet aircraft. This first phase should subsequently open the way to Techspace Aero’s participation as a revenue sharing participant on these engine programs. Techspace Aero is associated with this programme in its specialities: the low-pressure compressor and the oil system equipment.

Besides traditional industrial capabilities, engine integrators and manufacturers are looking for companies capable of offering them differentiating technologies so as to give a competitive advantage to their future engine. Association with the engine integrator and manufacturer from the R&T phase is an acknowledgement of Techspace Aero’s technological expertise. It is the result of the strategy of developing Research, Technologies and Development skills that have been implemented for over 10 years. This is the fruit of significant investments by Techspace Aero, combined with financial contributions from public authorities.

The TechX and NG34 engines are intended for long-range business aircraft and regional aircraft carrying approximately 100 passengers. Techspace Aero’s task is to provide its contribution to GE’s objectives for these engines. This will be reflected in Techspace Aero’s efforts to reduce the mass and to increasingly optimise aerodynamics.

The current contract concerns studies that will be spread over approximately 2 years and might lead to a potential annual turnover of approximately € 100 million in the medium term.

Techspace Aero is currently a participant on the forerunners to the NG34 (the CF34-10E for the Embraer 190/195 and the CF34-10A for the Chinese Regional Aircraft ARJ21), on the GEnx (B787 and B747-8), and GE90 (B777) as well as through Snecma on the CFM56 (A320, A340, B737).
