Research into mass reduction and aerodynamic performance has led Techspace Aero’s specialists to create an unprecedented product stemming from the technology of one-piece bladed disks (or blisks). This is a compressor drum in which the blades are no longer set in but are instead friction-welded. The first prototypes underwent testing at the Von Karman Institute to investigate the mechanical behaviour of these products, which could be incorporated into engines to be commissioned in 2015.
